Certified Boiler Assessor

A person with the demonstrated education, experience, and knowledge as defined by this information and who successfully passes the required examinations is considered qualified as an Certified Boiler Assessor (CBA). The AABA is qualified in participating in those operations associated with boiler inspection and repairs and other types of boiler pre outage, outage and post outage operations in accordance with recognized standards as set forth by the ASME, National Board, AWS, ASNT and AABA. They will operate within the parameters of the appropriate contract documents, codes, and other standards to produce a satisfactory and safe result. The assessors activities begins before construction and continues through the production process then ending when the process is complete. Each employer is responsible for defining the specific duties of the CBA in their place of employment. NOTE: While the AABA has established excellent credentials, qualification to this specification alone may not legally qualify the assessor to provide technical services to the public. Contract documents, building or jurisdiction laws may require technical services to be performed under the direction and responsibility of others as determined on a case by case basis.

 

Level I Certified Boiler Assessor

1. (40) Formal class hours are required provided by a Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV).

2. Candidate must successfully pass a AABA Level I written examination with a score of 80% or higher.

 

Level II Certified Boiler Assessor

1. Level I certification and a minimum of 4,160 hours of verifiable boiler inspection experience.

2. (80) Formal class hours are required provided by a Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV) trainer.

3. Candidate must successfully pass a AABA Level II written examination with a score of 80% or higher.

4. ASNT level I or above in "UT", "PT", "MT" or a CWI certificate are required to qualify AABA Level II status.

 

Level III Certified Boiler Assessor

1. Prerequisites are Level II certification and 10,400 hours of verifiable boiler inspection experience

2. (120) Formal class hours are required provided by a Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV) trainer.

3. Candidate must successfully pass a IABP Level III written examination with a score of 80% or higher.

4. ASNT level III or above in "UT", "PT", "MT" are required to qualify AABA Level III status. (10) Ten years of active NDE Level II experience or a CWI certificate and other pertinent experience exceeding (10) years in duration can be substituted for this requirement.

5. Refresher testing will be required every 60 months to verify candidate’s competency


Certified Boiler Engineer Assessor

A person with the demonstrated technical education, experience, and knowledge as defined by this information and who successfully passes the required examinations is considered qualified as an Certified Boiler Assessment Engineer (CBAE).

The AABA is capable of directing those operations associated with boiler inspection and repairs and other types of boiler pre outage outage and post outage operations in accordance with the appropriate contract documents, codes, and other standards to produce a satisfactory product. The engineer¹s activities begins before construction and continues through the production process then ending when the process is complete.

Each employer is responsible for defining the specific duties of the CBAE in their place of employment.

NOTE: While the AABA has established excellent credentials, qualification to this specification alone may not legally qualify the engineer to provide technical services to the public. Contract documents, building or jurisdiction laws may require technical services to be performed under the direction and responsibility of others such as a registered Professional Engineer. The AABA CBAE DOES NOT imply the status of a registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) under the laws of any state or other governmental entity.


Level I Certified Boiler Assessment Engineer

1. Individuals with a Bachelor of Science B.Sc.) degree in engineering and a minimum of one (1) year of related experience.

Individuals with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in engineering technology and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience. 

Individuals with other related Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degrees and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience. 

Individuals with an Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree and a minimum of ten (10) verifiable years of related experience. 

Any science based degree four or more years or (15) years of verifiable engineering experience directly related to boiler assessment engineering are required to qualify as a Level I Certified Boiler Engineer candidate.

2. (40) Formal class hours are required provided by an Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV).

3. ASNT level I or above in "UT", "PT", "MT" are required to qualify AABA Level I status

4. Candidate must successfully pass a Level I written examination with a score of 80% or higher.


Level II Certified Boiler Assessment Engineer

1. Prerequisites are Level I certification and (4,160) verifiable hours of boiler engineering experience as a AABA Level I.

2. (80) Formal class hours are required provided by an Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV).

3. ASNT level II or above in "UT", "PT", "MT" or a CWI certificate are required to qualify AABA Level II status.

4. Candidate must pass an examination with a score of 80% or higher.

 

Level III Certified Boiler Assessment Engineer

1. Prerequisites are Level II certification and (10,400) verifiable hours of boiler engineering experience as a AABA Level II.

2. (120) Formal class hours are required provided by an Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE Level IV) trainer.

3. Candidate must pass an examination with a score of 80% or higher.

4. ASNT level III or above in "UT", "PT", "MT" are required to qualify AABA Level III status. (10) Ten verifiable years of active NDE Level II experience or a CWI certificate can be substituted for this requirement.

5. Refresher testing will be required every 60 months to verify candidate’s competency

 

Level IV Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE )

The Certified Master Boiler Engineer (CMBE Level IV) is geared for the boiler engineer Level III specifically in the boiler availability education field. This certification confirms your ability, talent and knowledge to specifically direct and perform operations associated with boiler assessment training and classroom instruction including preparation of training materials including manuals.

Level IV Certified Master Boiler Assessment Engineer (CMBE)

1. Individuals with a Certified Boiler Assessment Engineer level III with (20) verifiable years
experience as a CBE level III or acting or performing duties now classified as a Level III CBE Level III for
(20) verifiable years.

2. Refresher testing will be required every 60 months to verify candidate’s competency.
